Your Road Through Emmaus
The risen Christ to two ardent followers on that Emmaus road out of Jerusalem:
Jesus said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself. Luke 24:25-27
They had seen Christ in action personally. Yet those two had been slow in understanding and faith. But Jesus never leaves us in ignorance. We seek the truth, He discloses.
HE was there all along in the Old Testament. The promised Messiah was painted into book after book through the centuries -- through prophecy, through metaphors, through the lives of the characters described. Then, when his sacrifice had been made, the risen Lord disclosed lesson after lesson for those two, and they passed them down to us in the New Testament. HE is here in our lives but often we have yet to see Him work in our lives. Faith is the key to opening the way, and then holding fast to him.
Open your heart to Him. He speaks to those who listen! Turn from an off-and-on-again follower to a disciple!
How to be a disciple? First of all, ask him to show you how. Don't just listen to me. Walk with Him, listen daily, and seek what he would have you do. The disciple learns and serves, waiting for his direction, his every word.
Then you will find him on your road. Take up that continuing conversation with him there.
